Size a clip around a measured cable
Choose a cable diameter, mounting-hole pattern, and insertion direction. This model is not a universal retention or bend-radius recommendation.

Open the SCAD workspace, upload model.scad as the main source, change a parameter and compile. Compare the dimensions, then download the STL from that successful build.

Parameters to check
| Parameter | Value | Checked endpoint values |
|---|---|---|
cable_diameter | 8 mm | 4 / 14 |
cable_clearance | 0.6 mm | 0.2 / 1.2 |
wall_thickness | 2.4 mm | 1.6 / 4 |
screw_hole_diameter | 4 mm | 3 / 5 |
Geometry evidence
Model file bounds, including any arranged parts: 34 × 10 × 13.707 mm.
A displayed model and its dimensions are geometry evidence, not proof of physical fit, strength, electrical clearance, or print success.
Build measurements (JSON)Record cable and mounting constraints
Measure the actual cable jacket, identify the screw interface, and leave access for installation. Do not substitute a nominal cable size for the measured jacket when retention matters.
Test insertion before relying on it
Use a small sample to assess insertion force and inspect the clip for cracking. The rendered geometry cannot prove fatigue life, cable safety, or material suitability.
Questions this page answers
How do I size a clip for my cable diameter?
Measure the cable jacket and set the opening from that measurement, then test a sample. Nominal cable labels are not enough for a close-fitting clip.
Can I change grip without changing the mounting holes?
Yes when the opening and hole pattern are separate source dimensions. Rebuild and check both before printing.
Should the clip use screws, tape or an edge clamp?
Choose the interface from the installation surface and service needs. This screw-mounted reference does not establish that tape or edge-clamp mounting will work.
How do I avoid breaking the clip when inserting the cable?
Provide an insertion path, use a test sample, and inspect the material response. The needed clearance depends on your printer and material.
